Commercial Backup Power Systems
Standby generators, UPS systems, and emergency power solutions to keep your St. Louis area business running during outages.
What We Provide
Why It Matters
Our Process
1. Critical Load Analysis
We identify which systems must stay running during an outage—servers, refrigeration, life safety, production equipment, or entire facility. We calculate running and starting loads, accounting for motor inrush and power factor, to determine the minimum generator capacity required.
2. System Design
Based on load analysis, we specify the complete backup power system: generator size and fuel type, automatic transfer switch rating, and any load shedding or sequencing requirements. For critical facilities, we design N+1 redundancy and paralleling configurations.
3. Site Planning
We identify the optimal generator location considering fuel delivery access, exhaust clearances, noise ordinances, and cable run distances. For rooftop or indoor installations, we address structural requirements, ventilation, and fuel storage regulations.
4. Permit Coordination
Commercial generator installations require electrical permits and often mechanical permits for fuel systems. We handle all permit applications, including load calculations, site plans, and one-line diagrams. We coordinate inspections throughout the project.
5. Pad & Fuel System
We coordinate concrete pad installation sized for your generator, plus fuel system requirements—natural gas piping from the meter or diesel tank installation with containment. All fuel work is performed by licensed contractors and inspected.
6. Electrical Installation
We install the automatic transfer switch, generator feeder cables, and all control wiring. For larger systems, this includes paralleling switchgear, utility metering, and load management controls. All connections are torqued and documented.
7. Commissioning & Load Testing
After installation, we perform comprehensive startup and commissioning. This includes a full load bank test to verify the generator handles rated capacity. We simulate utility failure to verify automatic transfer operation and measure transfer time.
8. Training & Maintenance Plan
We train your facilities staff on generator operation, manual transfer procedures, and basic troubleshooting. You receive complete documentation including O&M manuals, as-builts, and a recommended maintenance schedule. We offer ongoing maintenance contracts for regular testing and service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about commercial backup power systems
What size generator does my business need?
It depends on your critical loads. We perform a load analysis to size the generator properly.
Natural gas or diesel?
Natural gas is convenient for unlimited runtime. Diesel provides higher power density and doesn't depend on gas lines.
Do you offer maintenance?
Yes. We offer maintenance contracts for testing, oil changes, and repairs.
What about UPS systems?
Yes. We install UPS systems for immediate backup and can integrate with generators for extended outages.
How often should generators be tested?
Monthly exercise runs and annual load bank testing are recommended. We can set up a maintenance schedule.
