Why It Matters
Signs You Need This Service
Not sure if you need pool & hot tub electrical? Here are the warning signs to watch for.
Hot tub delivered or planned
Schedule electrical installation before delivery. The hot tub can't be used until proper wiring is complete and inspected.
Existing pool with no GFCI protection
Older pools may lack required GFCI protection. This is a serious safety hazard that needs immediate correction.
Tingling sensation in pool water
ANY tingling in pool water is an emergency. Get out immediately and call an electrician—stray voltage can be lethal.
Pool lights flickering or not working
Pool light issues indicate potential underwater electrical problems. Have them inspected promptly for safety.
Using extension cords for pool equipment
Extension cords near pools are dangerous. Pool equipment needs dedicated, properly protected circuits.
No visible disconnect near hot tub
Code requires a disconnect within sight of the spa. Missing disconnects are both code violations and safety hazards.
Planning pool installation
Include electrical in your pool planning. Proper bonding and circuits must be installed before the pool is filled.
Tripped breakers when pool pump runs
The pump circuit may be undersized, overloaded, or have a ground fault. Have it inspected before continuing use.

Our Process
1. Equipment Review
We review your hot tub or pool equipment specifications to determine exact electrical requirements—voltage, amperage, and wire sizing. For hot tubs, we verify the manufacturer's requirements from your owner's manual or spec sheet.
2. Site Assessment
We visit your property to assess panel capacity, plan the wire routing from panel to equipment location, determine disconnect placement (must be within sight of spa per code), and identify bonding requirements.
3. Detailed Quote
You receive a quote covering the dedicated circuit, GFCI breaker, disconnect box, conduit, wire, and bonding materials. For pools, we include all equipment circuits and the equipotential bonding grid.
4. Permit Application
We pull the required electrical permit from your municipality. Pool and hot tub electrical work requires permits and inspection in all St. Louis area jurisdictions—no exceptions.
5. Circuit Installation
We install the dedicated circuit from your panel to the equipment location. This includes the GFCI breaker at the panel, conduit run (underground or along structure), and weatherproof disconnect box within line of sight of the spa.
6. Bonding Installation
We install the code-required equipotential bonding—connecting all metal components (spa frame, pump motors, handrails, metal water pipes) to create an equipotential plane that prevents shock hazards.
7. Equipment Connection
We make final connections at the hot tub or pool equipment per manufacturer specifications. Connections are weatherproofed and strain-relieved for long-term reliability.
8. Inspection & Approval
We schedule the electrical inspection with your municipality. The inspector verifies GFCI protection, bonding, disconnect placement, and wire sizing. We don't energize the circuit until inspection is passed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about pool & hot tub electrical
What size circuit does a hot tub need?
Most hot tubs require a 240V/50A circuit. Some smaller plug-and-play models use a standard 120V outlet.
What is bonding and why is it required?
Bonding connects all metal components to equalize potential and prevent shock. It's required by code for all pool and spa installations.
Do I need a permit for hot tub wiring?
Yes. Hot tub electrical requires permits and inspection in all St. Louis area jurisdictions.
How far should the disconnect be from the hot tub?
Code requires a disconnect within 5-50 feet of the spa, within line of sight.
Can you move my hot tub circuit if I relocate the spa?
Yes. We can relocate circuits or install new ones for spa moves.
Why do pool areas need GFCI protection?
Water and electricity are deadly. GFCI protection cuts power in milliseconds if current leaks to ground, preventing electrocution.
Can you wire underwater pool lights?
Yes. We install low-voltage LED pool lights with proper transformers and GFCI protection for safe underwater illumination.
What about pool automation systems?
We wire pool automation controllers, salt systems, heaters, and smart controls. We integrate everything for convenient operation.
